Flanges A means of connection between to pipes with help of nut,bolt and washer & gasket is called as flange. The gasket is applied to avoid any kind of leakage. A flange varies in size from 1/2" NB to 48" NB & in class 150# to 1500#. Flanges can be made for forging or plates. A forging grade are ASTM A 182 (for S.S.) & ASTM A 105 (for C.S.) with hub & weldneck. Plate made flanges are generally without hub & weldneck. The flanges are slip on raised face (SORF), slipon raised flat face (SOFF), weld neck raised face (WNRF), tongue & groove, spectacle blind, blind raised face (BLRF).
